Update SMC Hotel Reservations, Contest and Tickets

Hello all,

While the registration for traders at SMC is running at full steam, we would like to share some other info with our potential visitors.

Main question for most of you probably is when the hotel rooms at the NH Koningshof at the venue can be booked. NH will open bookings for SMC attendees on May 1, 2023.

Contest registration will only start in August 2023, but we have made some changes in the contest classes. We have listened to the advice we have been given and have added some classes, without going all crazy though, and have changed some other classes.
We did take our SMC philosophy into account in the expansions, which is to sensibly limit the number of classes per theme .

• For those that want to display their work out of competition we have added class 0 into our registration system Emperor. Indeed, we will allocate dedicated tables for Out of Competition exhibitors.
• In order to take pressure off the heavily attended Fantasy Painting class we will introduce a class dedicated to small figures up to 40mm tall; single pieces or squads/groups up to 10 pieces. For example gaming figures fit into this class but it certainly is not limited to gaming figures, or even fantasy, only.
• We are also meeting the request to expand aircraft classes. Including a separate class for helicopters.
• We split the civilian models into two separate class: one for utility vehicles and one for civilian, racing & rally cars, motorcycles etc. And yeah, we know, this one is way overdue😊

We are currently compiling the new workshop programme. We aim to start ticket sales for the workshops from 1 April 2023.

Vendors for SMC 2023

Vendors that are interested in a stand at SMC 2023 are requested to be patient.

We will start sending invitations to register your stand late November 2022.

We are currently preparing all details, and once these are finalized we can start preparing the registration forms and vendor terms for SMC 2023.

About the SMC contest

We are currently re-structuring the SMC contest. Most changes will affect the scale modelling classes of the contest as we will expand some categories as well as splitting up some classes.

There will also be a spectacular, much anticipated, change in the figures section of the contest.

These changes also make it necessary to re-write rules and especially the judging criteria, so there is work to be done.

We expect to publish the revised contest structure early next year.

See you at SMC 2023, on October 14/15 2023.

Dear all,

Although everything is still uncertain, due to the current Covid status,  we have proceeded with the preparations for SMC 2021.

As you can also see on the home page of this website we have a pre-liminary schedule :

* Definite Go-Ahead  – 15th July (or sooner if possible)
* Registration Trade – already available (check the Trade Page)
* Registration Clubs – already available (please use the contact form for clubs)
* Opening workshops registration – August 1
* Registration Hotel Rooms at NH venue – August 1
* Online Ticket sales – August 1
* Opening Contest registration – September 1

Apart from that, we have invited all vendors that have signed up for the mailing list and we will start inviting clubs very soon too.

And vendors that require a stand are requested to sign up for the vendor mailing list. However, if you have been trading at SMC in the past, or have booked (and paid!) for your stand at the World Model Expo, please check your email first (including the spam folder) as we have sent you a newsletter recently.

As for the contest: the classes, rules and judging criteria have been published on the contest page.  We have made some changes in the contest, in line with our contest philosophy,  that might well be worth looking at. 

The workshops program is also under construction. And although we will offer a less elaborate program than usual, the line up is smashing and well worth the wait. Stay tuned! 

 

A word about the room reservations: 
On social media we sometimes see people stating they booked a room, which is usually cause for total panic all around, angry and sometimes even abusive reactions toward the organisers.

Please be assured that maybe these individuals have booked a room indeed, but certainly not at NH Koningshof. We’ve checked with NH and the say that all rooms for the SMC weekend are blocked until we open the reservations according to the agreed schedule and via the method that will be explained later on the Hotel Reservations page

Finally, as mentioned, we are very much aware that the odds are not in our favour, but we wish to keep the spirits high and are eager to welcome you all again in October.
