About Robert Karlsson
The SMC Academy proudly presents another great painting weekend with one of the world’s leading painters: Robert Karlsson from Sweden.
“I started painting miniatures for fun, and within 4 years I sort of became more and more professional. In 2015 I had the great opportunity to do some test work for Mike McVey (CMON) and later I was handed my first ”real commission.
I have done boxart for games like Blood Rage, The Others, Cuthulu, Mordred, Rising sun, HATE, Trudvang and many more.
I also started to do more freelance painting, individual boxarts for companies all around.
And I had some luck in big competitions such as SMC, MSS and Kontrast. Winning several medals and also Best of show and Best of Fantasy”
PAINTING: WHAT HOW AND WHY ?
The purpose of this class is to guide students through any questions they may have regarding their painting. My philosophy is to ask the students these questions: what, how, why and to have a dialogue without dictating every move. This way we can reflect and compare ideas, thoughts within the students themself, with my guidance.
Rather than learning straight up methods for NMM or how to paint skin….I ask what the students wants to get better at and how we can develop this further.

- Disposables: water/mixing cups, paper tissues etc.
- Extension cords and power strips (multiple connectors)
For the record: We have 230V here in the Netherlands and we use Euro plugs!
Not included in the seminar price and what to bring yourself:
Paints: Please bring your own according to the outline (PDF)
Lunch: During the day you can obtain beverages and snacks from the bar at very reasonable prices.
Supermarkets and a snackbar are at walking distance from the venue.
Please bring:
- Paint brushes – selection of normal sizes 00 to 1 (W&N sizes)
- Selection of acrylic paints, whatever brand you usually paint with
- Pallet – dry or wet pallet may be used
- Desk lamp
- Miniature holder (optional)
Payment, cancellation and refund policies:
Payment
- Payment in advance is required for all participants. Immediately upon registration you will receive an automatically generated invoice. Payment is required within 14 days of invoice date. Your seat will only be ensured after receipt of your payment.
- In case you fail to pay within the requested time frame your seat will be allocated to another attendee.
- Please note that for payments made via Paypal we add a 5% surcharge.
Refund Policy and conditions
- We do not refund if you have to cancel your participation, but you are allowed to sell your seat to someone else in that case. Please provide us with the details if this occurs.
- We guarantee a full refund of the seminar fee is in case the seminar is cancelled on behalf of the organization or the teacher due to health issues, or urgent and unforeseen family matters.
- In case of refunds we will reduce the refunded amount with any prior banking costs, should these apply.
- The organization nor mr. Karlsson nor affiliated companies can be held responsible for a possible cancellation of the event due to external factors.
- We recommend that participants have their own travel- and cancellation insurance to cover risks and costs other than the seminar fee.
